Colorado Buffaloes - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

Dan Hawkins had a nightmare of a first season as Colorado head coach in 2006, finishing 2-10 and losing all four non-conference games.  There are 16 starters returning to campus this season, including nine on offence, and there is really nowhere to go but up for the Buffaloes offensively (they ranked 102nd in total offense and 116th in the air).  Bernard Jackson is back to show off his multiple play-making skills, and Hawkins wants to line Jackson at various positions other than quarterback, where he started last season.

This season’s quarterback could be Hawkins’ son Cody, who will have to deal with learning the Buffaloes’ offense behind a line with three new starters. Jackson could also be used to bolster the Buffs’ weak receiving unit, but Hugh Charles returns to lead the ground game.  Seven starters are back from last season’s 66th-ranked defense, but Colorado must improve its 95th-ranked passing defense. Finding a replacement for Abraham Wright will be a good starting point as the defensive end racked up 11.5 sacks in 2006.  Three starters return to the secondary, which is a relief to Hawkins while he sorts out his situation up front.  Leading tackler Jordan Dizon will anchor a strong linebacking corps with another year of experience under their belts. Losing graduated kicker Mason Crosby will hurt the special teams, and this could be magnified if the offense predictably struggles to get into the end zone.

The 2007 season kicks off with five straight home games, including a big rivalry game with Colorado State in the season opener and a visiting Florida State team. The Buffaloes also managed to avoid powerhouse Texas, but will run into Oklahoma and Nebraska, albeit at home. The Buffaloes should win at least four games this season, which will boost Hawkins’ confidence as he rebuilds the program.
