Wisconsin Badgers - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting
On paper, it looks good again for Wisconsin. Now, everyone wants to see how it translates out on the field. The Badgers lost only once last season and capped their year with a win in the Capital One Bowl. This year, the team returns 16 starters. But before they can think about wrestling the conference title away from Ohio State or Michigan, Wisconsin must first answer several questions.
The loss of starting quarterback John Stocco means they must look to either Tyler Donovan or Allan Evridge to take the helm. Either player will be greatly aided by 1,500-yard rusher P.J. Hill, who appears to be recovered after an offseason surgery on his left shoulder. Hill was a big reason the team ranked third in the conference in rushing touchdowns last season. Receivers Luke Swan and Paul Hubbard and tight end Travis Beckum provide reliable targets. On defense, only time will tell if last year's fifth-ranked unit is as good as advertised. With a light schedule, last year's results could be misleading. A veteran defensive line is back - minus left tackle Joe Thomas. The Outland Award winner (and third overall pick in the NFL draft) should be replaced by either Jake Bscherer or Gabe Carimi. With the loss of safeties Joe Stellmacher and Roderick Rogers and middle linebacker Mark Zalewski, the Badgers will need other players to step into those key roles.
Look for outside linebackers DeAndre Levy and Jonathan Casillas, along with cornerback Jack Ikegwuonu to be major players in the defense. Wisconsin entered last season well under the radar. The same cannot be said for this season. People are watching and expecting a season similar to last year. With a manageable schedule which doesn't pit them against Michigan or OSU until November, the Badgers have time to prove the team on the field is as good as the one on paper.
