Michigan Wolverines - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting
Michigan was cruising along undefeated last year before a regular-season loss to Ohio State and a Rose Bowl pounding at the hands of USC. How will the Wolverines respond in 2007? Football bettors could see two very different stories on either side of the ball. On offense, the nucleus of a juggernaut is back, including quarterback Chad Henne, receiver Mario Manningham and running back Mike Hart. If Hart rushes for 1,500 yards as he did last year and scores 14 touchdowns; and if Manningham is anywhere as productive as last year's 703 yards and nine scores, it could be a monster year offensively in Ann Arbor. There will be a few challenges on offense, however, as UM looks to replace kicker Garrett Rivas and centre Mark Bihl. Steve Breaston, who split time as a receiver and punt returner, is one weapon the team will have to do without.
Defense is where things get a little murky. Last year's squad was ranked 10th in the nation and looked fearless in limiting their first 11 opponents to just 12 PPG. But that was before OSU and USC scorched them and the team must now deal with the loss of safety Willis Barringer, ends LaMarr Woodley (who led the team with 12 sacks) and Rondell Biggs, tackle Alan Branch, linebackers Prescott Burgess and David Harris and cornerback Leon Hall. Look for Tim Jamison to step up at defensive end. Lloyd Carr's boys will also have to deal with three new starters on the defensive line.
It's not going to be easy on defense for the Wolverines but the offense should have enough firepower that the D will not be required to suffocate opposing offenses. Their schedule should also go a long way in helping Michigan succeed, with most of their tough challenges at home.
