Virginia Tech Hokies - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting

Now in their 21st season under head coach Frank Beamer, the Virginia Tech Hokies have become a consistent contender on the national stage. It's almost hard to believe, but VTech actually suffered through four losing seasons in Beamer's first six in charge. But since 1993, the Hokies have averaged fewer than three losses per season and gone to bowl games each year. Last year, Tech had high hopes of a national championship run. But after winning their first four games, the Hokies lost back-to-back outings to Georgia Tech at home and at Boston College. Virginia Tech then rebounded to win its last six regular-season games, but then collapsed in the second half of a loss to Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, a game they led 21-3 at the half.

The offense was a big disappointment, ranking 99th overall and 90th in rushing. But they led all of 1-A ball in total defense for the second straight season, and ranked 11th vs. the run. This season, the Hokies return eight starters to each side of the ball, including the team's leading passer (QB Sean Glennon), rusher (RB Branden Ore), receiver (WR Josh Morgan), tackler (LB Vince Hall), sacker (DE Chris Ellis) and interception man (CB Victor Harris) of last season. Glennon struggled last year, but has plenty of reliable targets. Ore ran for more than 1,100 yards in '06 and the defense will just be solid all-around, led by LBs Hall and Xavier Adibi and CB Brandon Flowers. And don't forget Beamer's specialty; special teams.

This year's schedule includes an inter-conference trip to LSU and visits to Clemson, Georgia Tech and Virginia, along with home dates against Boston College, Florida State and Miami. Virginia Tech is clearly one of the favorites in the ACC's Coastal Division again this year.
