Boston College Eagles - NCAA Football Odds, Lines & Betting
In 10 years under head coach Tom O'Brien, the Boston College Eagles won 76 games, made eight straight bowl appearances and won the last seven of those games in a row. And in two seasons since joining the ACC, BC has gone 19-6, and 10-6 in conference play. Last year, the Eagles won 10 games, their only losses coming by two points at North Carolina State, by seven at Wake Forest and by three at Miami. Then, they got lucky and beat Navy in the Meineke Bowl. But all that is in the past; O'Brien is gone, off to Raleigh to take over the Wolfpack. Jeff Jagodzinski, a former pro assistant, is now in charge in Chestnut Hill.
His arrival coincides with the departure of several members of the coaching staff, so the Eagles will have an almost entirely new set of coaches implementing a new, more up-tempo system. Fortunately for BC, 16 starters are back from last year, including QB Matt Ryan, who's 14-4 as a collegiate starter. The entire front seven on defense is also back. These holdovers and a few more include the team's leading rusher, receiver, tackler and interceptor from 2006. The Eagles will need to fill a couple of holes on the offensive line, and the running game wasn't too great last year, producing just 113 YPG. Last season, BC ranked 50th in total offense and 34th in total defense.
They also benefited from a +15 turnover ratio, which ranked second-best in all of 1-A ball. But the schedule certainly can't be called a cakewalk this time around; the Eagles pay visits to Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Maryland and Clemson. Regardless, despite a new coach, new system and tough slate, Boston College has enough talent to be considered one of the favorites in the ACC's Atlantic Division.
