Marshall Thundering Herd - NCAA Basketball Betting
Young head coach Donnie Jones has been an unequivocal success in his first season as the head coach of the Marshall Thundering Herd, helping the team to quickly shake off a losing season in 2006-07 that saw the Herd go 13-19 overall and 7-9 in Conference USA games, ending the season in eighth place in the conference.
This year, Jones, a former assistant to Billy Donovan at the University of Florida, has led the Herd to a solid 16-13 overall record that includes a respectable 8-8 mark in Conference USA games.
While Jones has brought a winning attitude to the program and turned the Herd into an up-tempo, three-point shooting club, the young team clearly needs more talented players – and better shooters – in order to compete with the tougher teams in the conference.
Marshall has averaged just 68.3 points per game, (190th) on 42.8 percent shooting, (228th) from the field and has made just 32.0 percent of its three-pointers this season, (285th).
The young team has not helped itself by making just 67.4 percent of its three-pointers, (226th). Interestingly enough, the Herd’s poor shooting has helped them become one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country, averaging 11.2 offensive board per game, (64th).
Marshall has held its opponents to just 66.4 points per game, (117th) on 44.9 percent shooting from the field, (239th) and 35.3 percent from long distance, (182nd).
Marshall has been terrible on the defensive glass, pulling down just 20.3 defensive rebounds per game, (256th) though their opponents have made just 66.3 percent of their free throws.
Expect Jones to push this team even harder next season while improving the ball club even more and getting slightly better results because of it.
