East Carolina Pirates - NCAA Basketball Betting

First-year East Carolina head coach Mack McCarthy has inherited a struggling team that went 6-24 overall and a dismal 1-15 in Conference USA play in 2006-07 to finish in 12th place.

The 2007-08 season has also been a struggle for the Pirates who are just 11-18 overall and 5-11 in Conference USA games in the BetUS.com Sportsbook at the time of this writing.

The Pirates are ranked 214th in the nation in scoring, averaging 67.4 points per game on a dismal 41.3 percent shooting mark which ranks 279th in the nation though the team has shot a solid 37.5 percent from three-point distance, (71st overall).

East Carolina has also struggled with its defense in a big way in 2007-08, ranking 281st in the nation by allowing their opponents to score a whopping 73.4 points per contest on 44.3 percent shooting from the field (213th).

The Pirates have just one player averaging double figures in scoring this season, 6-2 junior guard Sam Hinnant (10.3 ppg).

While the East Carolina has taken some small steps toward respectability this season, the Pirates still have a long way to go in the improved Conference USA.
