While it is true the Washington Wizards have one of the most explosive trios in all of basketball in point guard Gilbert Arenas, and forwards, Antwan Jamison and Caron Butler, it is also a known fact that the Wizards defense has more holes in it that a pound of Swiss Cheese.

While it is certainly nice to have three players on the roster that can get over 20 points per game, Washington’s downfall in each of the past three seasons has been the absolutely atrocious defense.

Joining Arenas in the starting backcourt is shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson, a player who started all 82 games last season, but one that needs to become more consistent in order to really help the Wizards.

Veteran Antonio Daniels is the backup point guard and athletic rookie Nick Young could see some time at the backup two-guard position.

Though the Wizards have two special forwards in Butler and Jamison, Washington’s biggest deficiency is still in the frontcourt where the team doesn’t have a legitimate starting power forward or center.

Centers Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood are mediocre at best, though Thomas is a solid rebounder.

Frontcourt
In the last couple of years, the Wizards have been about as strong in the middle as a jelly donut. The two-headed monster of Etan Thomas and Brendan Haywood gets your team about 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 fouls per game so more production, especially on the offensive glass, would be key with Arenas and Butler hoisting from the perimeter. Outside of Butler and Jamison at forward, Washington will use

Young forward Andray Blatche is athletic but green and veteran Darius Songaila has never lived up to his potential.
