The Phoenix Suns have been knocking on the NBA championship door for a good three seasons now and once again, appear to have as good a shot as any team in the league, maybe even more so with the team’s decidedly new attitude but same electrifying players.

The Suns are led by one of the best point guards in NBA history in two-time MVP Steve Nash and have a capable scorer and hard-nosed defender at the ‘two’ in veteran Raja Bell. The Suns also have a backup point guard in Leandro Barbosa that could start for most teams in the league. Barbosa had his best season yet last year and changes games in the blink of an eye with his jaw-dropping quickness. Rookie D.J. Strawberry could see some minutes off the bench late in games.

Phoenix is even stronger in its frontcourt with all-stars Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion. Though the pair reportedly doesn’t like each other very much – and Marion has publicly asked to be traded – the Suns are fortunate to have each 20 and 10 player and their unique set of skills at both ends of the floor.

The Suns also have do-it-all forward Boris Diaw to play multiple positions if needed and added veteran Grant Hill in the off-season.

Phoenix will once again try to win it all with offense and showed last season just how close they came to actually pulling it off.

Who knows, had the team not been saddled with the loss of Stoudemire and Diaw in a critical contest against the San Antonio Spurs in the western conference finals last season, maybe things could have been different.

Though I love the Suns’ run-and-gun style, I am, again, worried about their lack of size and strength in the frontcourt, particularly when they face a team with a talented low-post player or two, like, say, the San Antonio Spurs and Tim Duncan.
