The Los Angeles Clippers suffered an immense blow to their 2007-08 season this offseason when the team’s best player, all-star power forward Elton Brand ruptured his Achilles tendon, causing him to miss at least half of the 2007-08 season.

Unfortunately, by the time Brand makes his way back to the roster, along with point guard Shaun Livingston who suffered a gruesome knee injury last season, the Clippers could be out of the postseason race altogether.

Los Angeles returns its starting backcourt from a season ago in veterans Sam Cassell and Cuttino Mobley. Both players can still get the job done on most nights but are aging rapidly, particularly Cassell.

The Clippers did acquire veteran Brevin Knight to back up Cassell and either Corey Maggette or Quinton Ross will back up Mobley.

With Brand out to start the season, the Clippers will start veteran Tim Thomas in his place, with Maggette likely manning the starting small forward position. The Clippers also added veteran Ruben Patterson and drafted athletic rookie Al Thornton out of Florida State.

Center Kris Kaman is the starter at center and will be backed up by veteran Aaron Williams.
