While the Golden State Warriors pulled off the biggest upset in NBA postseason history by spanking the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the western conference playoffs last season, the Warriors are expecting even bigger on-court success in 2007-08.

While Golden State GM Chris Mullin and head coach Don Nelson have undeniably turned the fortunes of the Warriors floundering franchise around in only one season, Golden State will have its work cut out if they are to take another step forward in the powerful western conference

With that said, it’s interesting to note that Mullin and the Warriors didn’t just stand pat with the hopes of improvement from within, he tweaked the roster, in the hopes of even more success, although it should be interesting to see how the Warriors newst additions actually perform on the court.

In the backcourt, the Warriors will start the explosive Baron Davis and last season’s Most Improved Player, young shooter, Monta Ellis. Both players are 6-3 scoring guards though Ellis is more of a natural shooting guard.

Golden State added veteran point guard Troy Hudson from the Minnesota Timberwolves and may have pulled off the steal of the draft by nabbing Italy’s Marco Belinelli, a player many are already saying is going to be one of the top five shooters in the entire league. Big guard Kelenna Azubuike will see whatever minutes are left over in the backcourt.

In the frontcourt, the Warriors traded starting small forward Jason Richardson and his nearly 20 points per game to the Charlotte Bobcats for former North Carolina Tar Heel lottery pick, Brandan Wright, a player that has an absolutely huge upside, but may be lacking in the heart department.

Wright will come off the bench to back up starter Al Harrington at the power forward spot while versatile forwards Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus will see plenty of minutes in the rotation behind starter and newly-named team co-captain Stephen Jackson.

The Warriors also acquired sweet-shooting veteran forward Austin Croshere and will try to get both Andres Biedrins and last season’s lottery pick, center Patrick O’Bryant, some burn this season.
