The Charlotte Bobcats are heading in a new direction after wallowing through a dismal, injury-filled 24-58 season that saw the team take a step backwards from their surprising 2005-06 season.

Fortunately for the Bobcats, they have added a legitimate scorer in shooting guard Jason Richardson that should help alleviate some of the offensive burden off of resident scorer, Gerald Wallace and budding young point guard Raymond Felton.

Felton is a fine distributor but needs to improve his career 38.7 percent shooting from the field. Veteran sniper Matt Carroll will likely backup Richardson at the ‘two’ but Charlotte’s backup point guard position needs addressing.

What Charlotte really needs is for their young big men to stay healthy for an entire season. With backup power forward Scott May already lost for the entire regular season because of microfracture surgery, the onus will be on former first round pick Emeka Okafor to stay healthy all season, no small feat for the almost perennially injured Okafor, a fine player when he’s healthy.

Charlotte re-signed underrated do-it-all small forward Gerald Wallace and has hope that 7-foot center Primoz Brezec, who also missed 22 games last season, can stay healthy and continue the improvement he’s shown in his overall game the past two seasons.
Lest we not forget, the Bobcats have a player I still believe will be a legitimate 18-20-point scorer in small forward Adam Morrison.

Charlotte now has several players that can put the ball in the hole in Richardson, Wallace, Felton and Morrison. What the team will need to really improve in 2007-08 is for better production out of the power forward and center positions.
