After grabbing two of the top players in this year’s NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks may finally have some legitimate reasons to hold on to their hopes of the reaching the postseason in the very near future, possibly this season in a best-case scenario.

After posting their eighth consecutive losing season with one of the youngest teams in the league last season, the Hawks got lucky in the lottery and were able to nab former Florida power forward Al Horford with the third overall selection before grabbing college basketball’s best finisher in former Texas A& M point guard Acie Law IV later in the first round.

The addition of Law in particular should help the point guard-needy Hawks immediately as the team has a slew of athletic small forwards that has needed someone to get them the ball in good scoring position for a few seasons now. Law will likely start from the beginning of the regular season alongside gifted shooting guard Joe Johnson, who was one of only 12 players in the league last year to average 25 points per game or more.

Again, athletic small forwards, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith and Josh Childress should all benefit from being on the floor at the same time as Law, who will be a serious scoring threat himself even in his rookie season.

The Hawks also have the makings of a solid bench with young sniper supreme, Salim Stoudemire, last year’s first round draft pick, power forward Shelden Williams and veterans, Speedy Claxton and Tyronn Lue, not to mention at least two of the aforementioned small forwards.
