Outlook: The San Francisco Giants won’t have former slugger Barry Bonds this season and despite the team’s solid starting pitching staff, will likely struggle to beat teams with what appears to be one of the most ordinary everyday lineups in all of baseball.

Starting pitchers Barry Zito, Matt McCain and Tim Lincecum form the foundation for the starting staff, though Kevin Correia, (4-7, 3.45 ERA) and Johnathan Sanchez, (1-5, 5.88) have a lot to prove and may not be in the rotation long if they don’t prove they belong quickly.

Starter Noah Lowry is out with an injury to start the season and closer Brian Wilson is an unknown entity.

While the Giants should do fine fielding the ball with several veterans who know how to get the job done, Frisco’s 3-4-5 hitters don’t look like they’ll produce much power with veterans Randy Winn, Bengie Molina and Rowand filling those spots.

First baseman Daniel Ortmeier is another player that no one knows what to expect from. Third baseman Rich Aurilia and second baseman Ray Durham are aging and shortstop Brian Bocock is a first-time starter who hasn’t appeared above Class A though he is scheduled to start with regular shortstop Omar Vizquel out until mid-April at the earliest.

The Giants will likely pay a big price this season for not addressing their aging ball club sooner than this past offseason.
