Outlook: The Colorado Rockies reached the first World Series in franchise history after a series of historical events that vaulted them into the NL postseason where they promptly continued their torrid winning streak before finally being stopped by the overwhelming Boston Red Sox.

Last season, pitchers Josh Fogg, Rodrigo Lopez, Elmer Dessens and Byung-Hyung Kim combined for 49 starts but are all gone heading into 2008 and now, the Rockies could be in trouble pitching-wise after getting past staff ace Jeff Francis.

Youngster Ubaldo Jimenez and veteran Aaron Cook will be the team’s top two pitchers following Francis. The team’s other starters, Jason Hirsch, (5-7 4.81 ERA), and Aaron Cook, (8-7 4.12 ERA) will need to improve on their mediocre stats from a season ago

The Rockies have a top-flight closer all of a sudden in 25-year-old Manny Corpas and two MVP-quality players in Matt Holliday, (.340 36 HR, 137 RBI), and Troy Tulowitzki, (.291, 24 HR, 99 RBI), not to mention one of the game’s best hitters in veteran Todd Helton, (.320, 17 HR, 91 RBI).

Outfielders Brad Hawpe, Willy Taveras and Ryan Spilborghs are all expecting to produce big numbers in 2008.

Following last season’s fantastic finish that vaulted them into the World Series, anything is possible for the Rockies in 2008.
