PGA Golf Betting Six Pack – Wachovia Championship
by Dave Golokhov
It’s one thing to say that the online betting field is really wide open – but we really mean it this time. With Tiger Woods out nursing a knee injury, the field is really wide open at the Wachovia Championship this week. Here’s a six-pack of golfers with some value:
Vijay Singh 14-1
Vijay Singh still has some value at 14-1, even though it’s not the tantalizing odds that you will get with a longer shot like Kim. Singh has the highest success percentage at this tournament of players who have started more than once at the Wachovia, which is an encouraging sign. He won in 2005 and has four top 10 finishes. But more importantly, Singh has been quietly competitive this year. He’s fourth in the FedEx Cup standings with four top 10 finishes this year.
Stewart Cink 25-1
Stewart Cink has been buzzing around the leaders in a number of tournaments this season – maybe this is the one where he stops being the bride’s maid and becomes the bride. He has five top 10 finishes in his nine starts this year, which tells you that he has been on his game thus far this season. He’s got to break through at some point and the value is too good to pass up for a guy who near the top of the leader board consistently. He’s +500 to finish in the top four if you want a lower risk investment.
Sergio Garcia 33-1
Sergio Garcia hasn’t won since 2005. I know what you’re thinking: his career is basically summed up by the one crazy shot he made with his eyes closed and the ball up against a tee. But he’s working hard and he plays well in the Wachovia Championship. He hasn’t missed a cut there and finished 14th last year and tied for second in 2005.
Lucas Glover 45-1
Lucas Glover is a talented guy but he often gets frustrated when things don’t go well on the course. He earned more than $2 million in 2005, played for the US Presidents Cup team in 2006 and he finally finished in the top 10 this year, tying for seventh at the Verizon Heritage last week. Glover starts well – he shot 66, 66 in the first two rounds last week and 69, 69 in the first two rounds at his last tournament, the Shell Houston Open – now he just needs to put it together for four rounds.
Anthony Kim 45-1
Anthony Kim finished fifth at the Wachovia Championship last year, which is an encouraging sign. He’s putting really well and by his accounts, as good as he’s putt since he turned pro. He is a young, 22-year-old golfer that is one the cusp and with Tiger out of the mix, the pressure will be lessened to breakthrough.
Nick Watney 80-1
80-to-1 may seem like long odds but I have a feeling that if it’s not Singh, someone will come out of the woodwork to take this tournament. Nick Watney has finished among the top 25 in his three starts in this tournament and his 11th-place finish at The Masters is encouraging. He took a few weeks off so he should be sharp this week.
