Online Motorsports Betting - Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!

by Robby Maddux

Ok online sports betting motor-head brethrens with the need for speed, let's make our Memorial Day weekend a profitable one and put ourselves into Victory Lane in money-making fashion.

On Sunday, race fans will be treated to the IRL's Indianapolis 500, which is one of the most legendary and famous races on the planet, and NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 that's the longest motorsports event ran on an oval track in the world.

Starting in the front row of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” is an honor and highly beneficial at the Indianapolis 500. 2007 runner-up Scott Dixon will start from the pole as the betting favorite at +250. Dixon qualified with a speed of 226.366 mph.

Dixon drives for Target/Chip Ganassi Racing. He won the IndyCar Series title in his first season in the series in 2003 and nearly came back to claim a second series championship last season.

Dixon’s teammate Dan Wheldon, who was the 2005 Indy 500 winner and IndyCar Series champion, starts in the middle of the front row. Wheldon qualified with speed of 226.110 mph. He' oddsmakers second choice to drink the milk priced at +350.

Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe priced at +900 will begin along side of Wheldon. Briscoe finished a solid fifth in last year's 500. He earned front-row honors with a speed of 226.080 mph.

Dixon and Weldon will be tough to beat on Sunday, but any of the 33 cars in the field can win, making this a difficult race to handicap. In any event that's as wide-open as the Indianapolis 500 it's always wise to search for online sports wagering value.

With that in mind, after looking through the BetUS motorsports odds, the driver that fits the bill is Danica Patrick, who's one of three ladies in the race. Not only is Patrick one of the hottest chicks in any sport, she's extremely talented and very capable of taking the checkers in the 500 valued at +900.

She became the first female winner in IndyCar history on April 20 at the Indy Japan 300, and the victory wasn't a fluke by any means. Patrick was IRL rookie of the year in 2005, when she won three poles and started and finished fourth at Indianapolis, where she became the first woman to lead a 500. Her strong fourth-place finish is still a record ran by a woman at Indy.

The beauty joined Andretti Green Racing last year and finished seventh in points en route to four top-five and 11 top-10 outings, including finishes of third at Texas and Nashville, and a fifth-place finish at Mid-Ohio.

She will roll off the starting grid fifth in row 2 on Sunday and fifth in season points. Patrick ran eighth at Indianapolis each of the past two years. Patrick is consistent with a great chance to make Indy 500 history with a win. Online Indianapolis 500 betting television coverage begins at 12:00pm EST.

If you bet on NASCAR the way to go in the Coca-Cola 600 is Hendrick Motorsports. After winning 18-of-36 races in 2007, Hendrick has only one win in 2008 that was claimed by Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson. But things will improve at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Sunday.

The two thoroughbreds among the four-horse field of Hendrick that's most likely to take the checkers is Johnson or four time champion Jeff Gordon. That's not exactly going out on a limb, but we're not here to climb trees unless it's the money growing variety.

Now that we've narrowed the race winner down to two, which one is the online NASCAR betting winner? I'm going with Gordon, who finished third in the most recent points-race at Darlington Raceway and appears to be heating up. It was Gordon's fourth top-5 in 2008 that moved him into 10th-place in the championship standings.

Gordon has been strong on the 1.5-mile quad-oval, winning four times and posting eleven top-5's and 13 top-10 finishes. Gordon's most recent win at Charlotte came in last year's fall race.

If you decide to pass on Gordon and put your coinage Johnson, you too are making a solid investment. Johnson, who has a terrific 6.8 average of finish, has taken the checkers five times at Lowe's Motor Speedway and has collected eight top-5's and eleven top-10 outings there.

BetUS NASCAR odds has Johnson listed among the favorites to win the Coca-Cola 600 at +600 with Gordon priced at +800. The online NASCAR wagering excitement begins at 5:45pm EST.
