NBA Power Poll Week 21 Part 1
by Mike Rose
(CURRENT) (TEAM) (W/L OVERALL & W/L FOR WEEK) (ATS RECORD) (LAST WEEKS RANK)
1) Boston Celtics (54-14/3-1) (41-24-2 ATS) (LW: 1) The C’s dropped their opening game of the week at home against Utah, but went on to win their next three and cover them all ATS. Tough week lies ahead with games scheduled to go at Dallas and New Orleans before returning home to host the Sixers, Suns, and Hornets.
2) Detroit Pistons (49-19/3-1) (37-30-1 ATS) (LW: 3) Motown posted a 3-1 SU and ATS mark this past week with SA, NO, and Denver before going on the road and losing to Lebron and company. The upcoming week is littered with playoff candidates (@ Wash, Pho, @ Tor), so look for Chauncey and company to once again turn up the heat.
3) LA Lakers (46-21/1-2) (40-25-1 ATS) (LW: 2) The worst week in months for the Lakers who dropped two of their three games both SU and ATS. However, their win at Dallas was a great way to close the week. They’ll have to overcome a brutal schedule this week without Pau Gasol (@ Utah, Sea, GS, @ GS, Char), so look for Kobe to put forth a couple 50-point performances and carry his team through this adversity.
4) Utah Jazz (45-24/2-1) (37-32 ATS) (LW: 4) The Jazz opened up the week with a brilliant win at Boston, but faltered the next night in NJ and lost by a bucket. They then returned home and smeared the Raptors in the 4th quarter to grab the 96-79 home win and cover. Big game at home vs. the Lakers this week before hosting league doormats Seattle,Charlotte, and the Clippers.
5) New Orleans Hornets (46-21/3-1) (41-25-1 ATS) (LW: 6) CP3 and the Hornets continue to plug along after putting forth another winning week at 3-1 both SU and ATS. This clubs been nothing but money ATS all season long, but that will be put to the test this week hosting Boston and then hitting the road for six straight.
6) Houston Rockets (46-22/2-2) (40-27-1 ATS) (LW: 5) The Rockets winning streak was halted at 22 when Boston rocked them at home in front of a national audience, and they followed that effort up with another dud in N’awlens. Trips to Golden State and Phoenix highlight this week’s action before returning home to host the Kings and Timberwolves.
7) Phoenix Suns (46-22/4-0) (32-33-2 ATS) (LW: 9) Looks like the Suns finally have it together after going a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS this past week, and that moves them up a couple notches in this weeks poll. However, this week looks brutal with a home game against Houston before hitting the road to take on Detroit, Boston, and Philly.
8) Golden State Warriors (42-25/2-2) (29-38 ATS) (LW: 8) The Warriors alternated wins and losses this week, but also served up another 1-3 ATS mark that took all the money they made their backers last week. Thy hold a 2-game lead over Denver for the 8th spot in the west, but it will be hard to keep it that way this week with games scheduled to go against the Rockets and Lakers.
9) Dallas Mavericks (44-24/2-1) (30-34-4 ATS) (LW: 10) The Mavs had a perfect week going once again until they lost a tough one at home to Kobe and the Lakers. The loss snapped their 5-game winning streak, but they’ll look to rebound at home this week against Boston, San Antonio, and the Clippers.
10) San Antonio Spurs (44-23/0-3) (28-37-2 ATS) (LW: 7) An 0-3 SU and ATS mark for the defending champs, and it looks as if they’re simply running out of steam. Either that, or they’re playing possum trying to situate themselves perfectly in the post-season. This veteran club will be put top the test this week with 5 games in 6 days.
11) Orlando Magic (45-25/3-1) (43-25-2 ATS) (LW: 11) The Magic continues to plug along winning week after week and making their backers money hand over fist. They host Philly and San Antonio with a sandwiched road game against Atlanta this week.
12) Philadelphia 76ers (34-34/3-0) (37-28-3 ATS) (LW: 14) The Sixers followed up last weeks 3-1 SU mark with a perfect 3-0 and 2-1 ATS mark this week to even up their record at 34 games a piece. This club has really turned it around since their dreadful play in January, and is a threat to upset one of the higher seeds in the East come playoff time.
13) Cleveland Cavaliers (39-30/2-2) (33-36 ATS) (LW: 13) A 2-2 mark SU and ATS this week for the Cavs as they won and covered both games at home but lost both ways on the road. Luckily for them this week they get two at home (Toronto, New Orleans), and a road game at Milwaukee against a Bucks club that’s clearly given up on the season.

14) Denver Nuggets (40-28/2-2) (36-32 ATS) (LW: 12) The Nuggets played .500 ball again this week, but that’s not going to get it done if they want to catch Golden State. Maybe they should try concentrating a bit more on defense, since they’ve only allowed less than 100 points twice in their L/10 games.
15) Washington Wizards (34-33/3-1) (38-29 ATS) (LW: 15) The Wizards are getting healthier with every passing week, and they’ve done a heck of a job putting money in their backers pockets throughout. That said, oddsmakers have started to give them their due, but the Wizards haven’t been able to get the job done 4 of their L/6 ATS.
