MLB Online Baseball Betting - Toronto at Boston
by Charles Jay
BetUS MLB baseball betting odds: Boston -200, Toronto +170; Total 9 (Over -115, Under -105)
The Boston Red Sox (16-12) hope their doldrums are behind them as they try to win their second consecutive game in Fenway Park on Wednesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays (11-16), as the series between these American League East teams continues in a contest that is set to begin at 7:05 PM ET.
Right-hander Dustin McGowan (1-2, 4.18 ERA) will get the mound assignment for the Blue Jays, while right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka (4-0, 3.14 ERA) tries to win his fifth straight decision for the Red Sox.
At BetUS Sportsbook, Boston is listed as a -200 favorite (Toronto +170), with a total of nine runs (Over is -115, with the Under at -105).
Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
(NOTE: These trends may also revert back to the 2007 season)
* TOR has lost seven of its last eight games
* TOR has played eight of its last ten games UNDER the total
* TOR has lost six of its last seven road games
* TOR has played eight of its last 11 road games UNDER the total
* BOS has lost five its last six games
* BOS has played five of its last six games UNDER the total
* BOS has won eight of its last ten home games
* BOS has played six of its last nine home games OVER the total
In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:
* TOR has won seven of the last eight meetings
* BOS has won four of the last six meetings as the road team
* TOR has won seven of the last 12 meetings as the road team
* Six of the last nine meetings in Boston have gone OVER the total
On Tuesday night the Red Sox were able to break their five-game losing streak with a 1-0 win. Jon Lester was simply brilliant, going eight innings and giving up just one hit. On Wednesday the Sox go with their high-priced Japanese import.
Matsuzaka has won ten of his last 11 decisions, dating back to last year. He has been truly difficult to reach, allowing opposing teams to hit just .182 against him. But he's also walked 17 of the 99 hitters he's faced so far. McGowan blew up in his last start against Tampa Bay, allowing eleven men to reach base in four innings. Opposing batters are hitting .311 against him.
The Red Sox have actually given Dice-K some pretty good run support, averaging 6.4 runs for every start he's made. But Boston has not been swinging the bats well lately. In the last three games, they have scored just two runs. Boston averaged .333 on their previous homestand, but then just .173 on the road trip that ensued. We should mention that McGowan has received very little in the way of backup from the Toronto offense, which has scored 14 runs in his five starts (2.8 per game). and things are not likely to explode north of the border without any big home run bats in the lineup.
Let's refer to the technical trends. Boston has played five of its last six games under the total, while Toronto has gone under in eight of its last ten. With both teams having some problems scoring runs, we'll move in the direction of "under" nine runs as that total is posted in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
JAY'S PLAY: UNDER 9 (-105)
