Despite the fact that the Mets are still trying to find some sort of consistency, this pick is an absolute ‘no-brainer’ with the Mets trotting out formidable left-hander Johan Santana while the Reds counter with hard-luck right-handed veteran Bronson Arroyo, who has struggled all season long. Take the Mets to cruise to victory here.

Arizona Diamondbacks at Chicago Cubs
The Pitchers: Diamondbacks starting pitcher Max Scherzer is 0-1 in one start and one relief appearances covering 8.1 innings with 12 strikeouts, two walks and an ERA of 2.16.
Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster is 4-1 in seven starts covering 43.0 innings with 29 strikeouts, 20 walks and a 2.72 ERA.
Analysis: The Arizona Diamondbacks were just 5-5 in their last ten games heading into Friday’s series opener with the Cubs while Chicago had won just three of their last ten overall. Despite the fact that Arizona’s Scherzer let me down in his first start of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday I like the young flame-thrower to bounce back with a big game in this contest while leading the D-Backs to victory over a game Ryan Dempster who has been very solid all season for Chicago.

Philadelphia Phillies at San Francisco Giants
The Pitchers: Phillies starting pitcher Jamie Moyer is 2-2 in seven starts covering 39.0 innings with 17 strikeouts, ten walks and a 4.15 ERA.
Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum is 4-1 in six starts and one relief appearance covering 42.1 innings with 45 strikeouts, 17 walks and a 1.49 ERA.
Analysis: The Giants will avoid getting swept by the Phillies this weekend by winning this matchup, though I will admit that the last time I went against ageless Philliesstarter Jamie Moyer, just this past Monday, I got burned big time. Still, I’m taking the Giants to win this contest on the strength of Tim Lincecum’s stellar pitching.

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Dodgers
The Pitchers: Astros starting pitcher Chris Sampson is 1-3 in six starts covering 26.0 innings with 12 strikeouts, eight walks and an ERA of 7.96.
Dodgers starting pitcher Chad Billingsley is 2-4 in six starts and two relief appearances covering 33.2 innings with 44 strikeouts, 21 walks and a 4.54 ERA.
Analysis: Despite his underwhelming record, the Dodgers’ Chad Billingsley is coming off a fine start in his last outing and should be able to put together another solid start against the Astros and mediocre starter Chris Sampson, though Houston had won five straight games before having their winning streak snapped on Thursday by the New York Mets. In the end, I say take the talented Billingsley and the Dodgers to pick up another win.
