MLB Baseball Betting - Tampa Bay at Toronto
by Charles Jay
BetUS MLB baseball betting odds: Toronto -160, Tampa Bay +140; Total 8 (Over -115, Under -105)
The Tampa Bay Rays (16-15) need to get themselves back on track. And on Tuesday night, they will try to repeat some of their previous success against the Toronto Blue Jays (16-17) when the two American League East teams tangle at the Rogers Centre (artificial turf) in Toronto. Game timeis 7:07 PM ET.
Right-handers will oppose each other, as Andy Sonnanstine (4-1, 4.42 ERA) takes the ball for the Rays against AJ Burnett (3-1, 4.46 ERA) of the Blue Jays.
At BetUS Sportsbook, Toronto is listed as a -160 favorite (Tampa Bay is +140), with a total of eight runs (the Over is -115, while the Under is -105).
Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
(NOTE: These trends may also revert back to the 2007 season)
* TB has won eight of its last 12 games
* TB has lost four of its last six games
* TB has played four of its last six games OVER the total
* TB has lost seven of its last ten road games
* TB has played six of its last eight road games OVER the total
* TOR has won its last five games
* TOR has won six of its last seven home games
* TOR has played its last nine games UNDER the total
In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:
* TB has won four of the last five meetings
* Twelve of the last 14 meetings have gone UNDER the total
* TOR has won eight of the last 12 meetings as the home team
* Nine of the last 11 meetings in Toronto have gone UNDER the total
Revenge will be the theme here, as the Blue Jays were swept in a three game series by the Rays in Orlando that started just a couple of weeks ago. But things have changed a bit since then for the guys north of the border.
Toronto has won five straight, and its pitching staff has been extremely stingy - in fact, in the last nine games, the Blue Jays have allowed just 12 runs. Naturally, this is going to result in some unders, and indeed, that is exactly what has happened in each of those nine games, and 14 of the last 16.
By the way, Toronto needs to get good pitching, because they are not scoring very many runs; the Jays are averaging just below four runs per contest, which includes just 37 runs in the last 14 games.
After scoring that sweep over Toronto, Tampa Bay went on to sweep the Red Sox as well, but recently Boston returned the favor at Fenway Park. Andy Sonnanstine is a good guy for them to have on the mound; after a very shaky start where he gave up 15 runs in his first 15-1/3 innings, he has come on to allow only four eanred runs in his last three starts.
The oddsmakers at BetUS have obviously set this total low (eight runs). And justifiably so. The trends on the part of Toronto, Sonnanstine, and in the head-to-head (see above) point us convincingly in the direction of UNDER the eight runs as that total is posted in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.
JAY'S PLAY: UNDER 8 (-105)
