MLB Baseball Betting Odds - San Diego at N.Y. Yankees

by Charles Jay

BetUS MLB betting odds: N.Y. Yankees -200, San Diego +170; Total 9

The New York Yankees (37-33), coming off four straight wins, play host to the San Diego Padres (31-40) in a Tuesday night sports betting contest that is scheduled to begin at 7:05 PM ET at Yankee Stadium (natural turf) in the Bronx.

It's a battle of southpaws, as Randy Wolf (5-4, 3.83 ERA) of San Diego faces off against Andy Pettitte (6-5, 4.64 ERA) of the Yankees.

At BetUS online sportsbook, New York is listed as a -200 baseball betting favorite (San Diego is +170), with a total of nine runs (the Over is -125, while the Under is +105).

Here are some of the MLB Baseball betting trends as they relate to this online wagering matchup:

* SD has won eight of its last 11 games

* SD has played six of its last seven games OVER the total

* SD has lost 17 of its last 24 road games

* SD has played four of its last six road games OVER the total

* NY has won five of its lastsix games

* NY has won nine of its last 12 home games

In the HEAD-TO-HEAD baseball betting trends:

* NY has won four the last five meetings

* Three of the last five meetings have gone UNDER the total

Whether the Yankees have their act together for the long haul or not remains to be seen, I suppose. But there is obviously some encouragement, after a stretch in which the Bronx Bombers have outscored opponents by a 27-6 margin in the current four-game winning streak. New York is now 5.5 games behind the division-leading Boston Red Sox.

Andy Pettitte had a little bit of a fiasco ten days ago against Kansas City, where he allowed ten runs in 6-2/3 innings, but followed that with a big effort in Oakland last Thursday, limiting the Athletics to five hits and s single run in eight innings. The Yanks have won four of his last five starts. And Pettitte has done very well in his last three starts against San Diego, yielding just three runs in 18 innings (although it must be noted that the starts took place in 2005 and 2006, when he was a member of the Astros).

Randy Wolf last faced the Yankees in 2001, so past history doesn't really matter. But he has been sizzling; in his last three starts he has a 1.35 ERA, and over the last five outings he has an ERA of 1.91. The Padres have won four of those five starts, even though they did not light up the scoreboard during that time (just 21 runs).

Even though San Diego has won just 33% of its games on the road (11-22), I think Wolf is on a nice enough roll that we can take a shot with him in this matchup, at this price. We will take it with San Diego, the +170 underdog in the BetUS Major League Baseball betting odds.

JAY'S PLAY: SAN DIEGO (+170)
