MLB Baseball Betting Odds - San Diego Padres vs. Chicago Cubs
by D.S Williamson
The Padres actually beat the Cubs in Tuesday night online betting action. I know. It surprised me to. The Padres scored four runs in the game which is about the most they’ll ever score in any sports betting game. At least that’s what it’s been so far this season. They send the best pitcher in the National League to the mound tonight, and the most unlucky, in Jake Peavy. Peavy is good enough to win every game he starts in. Asking for three runs from your team isn’t too much to ask and Peavy rarely needs more then three in order to get the win - - of course, he rarely gets enough run support. Peavy’s record this season is 4 and 2 in 8 games with an ERA of 2.47. The man should be 8 and 0, but the bats usually aren’t there for him.
The Cubs counter with Ted Lilly. Lilly is an okay pitcher. His record is 3 and 4 on the season with an ERA of 5.24. The Cubs must believe that there is no way for the Padres to get another 4 runs out of their batters. Why put Lilly up against Peavy? Of course, it could also mean that Pinella just didn’t plan his rotation with this game in mind.
Anyhow, here are the BetUS online sportsbook betting odds for this game:
Jake Peavy – R + 1 ½ - 220 Ev O 8 Ev
Ted Lilly – R - 1 ½ + 180 - 120 U 8 - 120
Here are a few online wagering trends in this game:
The San Diego Padres are 3 and 13 in their last 16 games as an underdog on the road.
The San Diego Padres are 1 and 4 in Jake Peavy’s last 5 starts on grass.
The Chicago Cubs are 1 and 6 in Ted Lilly’s last 7 starts as the favorite.
The Under is 7 and 1 in the San Diego Padres last 8 games on grass.
The San Diego Padres are 4 and 0 in Jake Peavy’s last 4 starts versus the Chicago Cubs.
Another game where conflicting trends make it very difficult for online MLB betting fans to find a wager.
Jake Peavy is awesome, but I just can’t see a team like the San Diego Padres beating the Chicago Cubs twice in two days. It just doesn’t happen.
The Cubs are a much better team then the San Diego Padres. Their middle relief is better and their closer won’t give up runs the way that Padres’ closer Trevor Hoffman has done this season.
That means that Ted Lilly just needs to keep this thing close, maybe within 1 or 2 runs, so that when the Padres pull Peavy, the Cubs will be able to make a strong push in the second half of this game.
That’s where I’m going. I’m going to go ahead and put up the extra 20 bucks on the BetUS moneyline online bet of Cubs – 120 to win straight-up.
