MLB Baseball Betting Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers
by Mike Rose
AL Central action picks back up for both the White Sox and Tigers Friday afternoon when they meet for the first time this season. Chicago managed to pick up their lone win of the season on getaway day against the Indians Thursday afternoon when John Danks threw 6+ strong innings allowing 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out two and walking two.
After laughing at those that felt the season was over after their first two losses to the Indians, Ozzie Guillen had this to say, "Well, we expected to win a game before the season was over." All kidding aside, the White Sox needed the win badly as they head to Comerica to take on the struggling Tigers.
After making such an enormous splash in free agency this past off-season, the last thing anyone expected was to see the Tigers drop their first three home games to the Kansas City Royals. With their line-up being deemed one of the deadliest in the big leagues, it only managed to score five combined runs in their three-game set with the Royals. The Tigers were held scoreless for an 18-inning stretch in the series.
Looking to grab the White Sox their second win of the season will be Jose Contreras who went 10-17 with a lofty 5.57 ERA in 32 appearances last season. He surrendered 232 hits in only 187 innings of work with a K/BB ratio of 113/62. At one time, Contreras won 17 straight decisions setting the White Sox all-time mark, but he leads the majors with 26 losses since the 2006 All Star game.
Nate Robertson will look to get the Tigers in the win column. He went 9-13 with a 4.76 ERA last season. He allowed 199 hits in 177 innings of work and 94 of the 98 runs he allowed were earned. The Tigers are only 3-7 the L/10 times they’ve faced the White Sox with Robertson on the hill, and 1-5 the L/6 times he’s faced them in Comerica Park.
Chicago has won 8 of their L/11 meetings with the Tigers in Detroit, and have won 7 of the L/10 meetings overall. Pitching normally rules the game between these clubs as the under is 37-14-3 the L/54 times these teams have met in the ‘Motor City’.
The Tigers opened up lofty –165 chalks for this divisional match-up, and the ‘total’ has been set at 9. You can get your action down in this early afternoon match-up at BetUS.com right now.
