MLB Baseball Betting – Phils Try To Rebound Against Giants
by Eric Williams
As predicted on Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies, (20-15, 17-17-1 O/U) were mowed down by the Arizona Diamondbacks and staff ace Brandon Webb, losing to the D-Backs 8-3 in a sports betting grudge match Thursday night.
Winners of six of their last ten online betting games in the BetUS Sportsbook, the Phillies will look to get back to their winning ways tonight against a San Francisco Giants, (14-20, 16-18 O/U) team that has lost four straight games and seven of their last ten overall.
The Phillies’ daunting offense could get an additional boost tonight as reigning National League MVP Jimmy Rollins could make his return from a sprained left ankle that has kept him out of the lineup since April 19, though the Phillies have gone 12-6 in his absence.
"If he's ready to play, there's a good chance he will be," said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. "He's the MVP. He's the shortstop. He helps us, man."
The Phillies will hand the ball to left-handed staff ace Cole Hamels, (3-3, 3.10 ERA) who allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings but didn’t get a decision as Philadelphia came back to win 6-5 on Sunday.
"I felt good, but I have to work on my location," Hamels said of his most recent start. "Overall, I felt like my fastball was good."
The Giants are back at home after falling to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 on Thursday, recording their fourth consecutive loss in the process.
"We can look back and say, 'Shoulda-coulda-woulda,' and all that, but the bottom line is we were 1-5," Giants manager Bruce Bochy told the Giants' official Web site. "That's not a good trip. We know it."
San Francisco will hand the ball to their own southpaw in Patrick Misch (0-0, 5.40) who makes his second start of the season after allowing four runs on five hits in four innings of San Francisco’s 6-5 loss at Philadelphia 10-innings last Friday.
Here is a look at tonight’s key trends followed by my MLB Gambling Free Picks:
The Phillies are 11-1 in Hamels' last 12 starts as a favorite of -151 to -200.
The Phillies are 5-1 in Hamels' last six starts as a road favorite of -151 to -200.
The Giants are 0-5 in Misch’s last five starts.
The Giants are 0-5 in Misch’s last five starts on grass.
The Over is 4-1 in Hamels' last five starts with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
The Over is 4-1 in Giants last five home games vs. a team with a winning road record.
The Phillies are 16-7 in the last 23 meetings.
The Over is 13-6-2 in the last 21 meetings in San Francisco.
Analysis: This pick is an absolute ‘no-brainer’ as the Phillies will cruse to victory tonight behind all-star starter Cole Hamels while simultaneously breaking out their ‘whipping sticks’ against mediocre Giants starter Pat Misch.
