The object of the game is simple get closer to 21 than the dealer, without going over. The game begins with the dealer dealing the player two cards face up and the dealer takes two cards with only one facing up. The player has a few options at this point, Hit, Stand or Double Down. If the player chooses to hit the dealer will give them another card, the player can take as many cards as they need to get close to 21 but not go over. If they player chooses to Stand they will not be given any more cards and use the total they have against the total of the dealer. The Dealer plays by the same rules every hand, if there total is less than 17 they must take another card, if the dealers total is 17 or higher they must Stand. Cards are counted by their numerical value except Kings, Queens and Jacks, which are always counted as ten, and Aces that can be counted as 1 or 11 which ever is most beneficial.

Blackjack

A blackjack occurs when the player or dealer reaches 21 with only two cards so any Ace in combination with any 10 or face card. This hand is the highest ranking had and pays 3/2 on your wager.

Bust

This is when the total of the cards is 22 or more, the hand is a loss regardless of the other hands totals.

Hit

This is the term used when requesting another card.

Stand

This is when the player doesn’t want to take any more cards.

Double Down

The player can double down as there first action only, it requires them to double their bet and take only one more card and then Stand.

Splitting

If the player’s first two cards are of equal value, the player can separate the cards into two hands. The player will be required to place a wager on the second hand equal to that of the first hand.

Push

This is when both the player and the dealer have an equal total, the wagers are returned to the player.

Surrender

The player has the option to surrender or give up their hand before they take a card from the dealer, by doing this the player loses only half of their wager.

Insurance

If the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, the player has the option to buy insurance. The insurance wager is equal to half of their original wager and pays 2/1 if the dealer has a blackjack, if the dealer doesn’t have blackjack the insurance wager is lost and the hand continues normally.

Soft Hand

A Soft Hand is one that includes an Ace value of 11.
