Baccarat has been around for centuries and is still one of the most popular games in the casinos of Monte Carlo.
The object of the game is to correctly predict whether the banker’s or the player’s hand will have the highest total or if their will be a tie. Before the cards are dealt, the bettor has three options of where to place their bet, on the Player, the Banker or Tie portion of the board. The Dealer then deals two cards to the player and two cards to the banker. If the player predicted correctly they win.
While Baccarat is a very simple game to play there are a few rules you should know before you jump in.
The first rule is the total of the cards can only be from 0-9, with 10, Jacks, Queens, and Kings counting as 0. If a third card needs to be drawn and the combined total of the cards is over 9 the first number is dropped and the second number is used as the total so 14 would be counted as 4.
The second rule is that if the player’s first two cards total 0-5 and the bankers total is 0-7 the player takes a third card. If the player’s total is higher than 5 or the banker’s total is higher than 7 the player is dealt another card.
If the Banker’s first two cards total 0, 1 or 2, the Banker draws one card.
Here are some other situations the dealer would take a third card
- Banker's Hand totaling 3: Banker gets a 3rd card UNLESS Player's 3rd card is 8 OR Banker gets a 3rd card if Player's 2 cards total is 6 or 7
- Banker's Hand totaling 4: Banker gets a 3rd card if Player's 3rd card is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 OR Banker gets a 3rd card if Player's 2 cards total is 6 or 7
- Banker's Hand totaling 5: Banker gets a 3rd card if Player's 3rd card is 4, 5, 6, or 7 OR Banker gets a 3rd card if Player's 2 cards total is 6 or 7
- Banker's Hand totaling 6: Banker gets a 3rd card if Player's 3rd card is 6 or 7
- Banker's Hand totaling 7: Stands
