Toothless Tigers Host Kansas City squad in a ‘Royal Mess’

The best thing I can say about either, the Kansas City Royals, (56-77, 62-71 RL, 61-71-1 O/U) or Detroit Tigers, (64-69, 62-71 RL, 63-63-7 O/U) is that both of their painful seasons will be coming to a swift end shortly.

The Royals have dropped three straight games in the BetUS Sportsbook and a whopping 17 of their last 20 games total, while the Tigers have dropped four straight, including Thursday’s 9-7 loss to Cleveland.

"You have the disappointment of the fans, obviously," Detroit manager Jim Leyland told his team's official Web site. "Does it bother me? Yes. But it would bother me more if the effort wasn't there and we were just going through the motions. And we're not doing that. We're trying right up until the end."

Detroit will try to get back on track tonight behind reliever-turned-starter, Zach Miner, (7-4, 3.61 ERA), who is 4-1 with a 2.87 ERA in seven starts since joining the rotation following the annual all-star break.

The right-handed hurler limited the Royals to just three hits in seven innings in Detroit’s 4-0 win on Saturday.

The Royals will counter with veteran Kyle Davies, (5-5, 4.81) who has struggled with his control recently and was the losing pitcher on Saturday after allowing four runs and four walks in six innings.

"I would like to see more command," Kansas City manager Trey Hillman said. "Overall, six out of nine innings, the leadoff hitter was on, five of six when Kyle was in the game. It's lucky he didn't run into more damage than he did."
