BetUS Sportsbook NBA sports betting fanatics that are trying to figure out the Indiana Pacers, (7-11 SU, 9-8-1 ATS, 10-7 O/U) had better have some Excedrin on hand for the head-scratching Pacers.
While the team made a nice offseason transaction to acquire point guard T.J. Ford for former center Jermaine O’Neal, the Pacers have produced mixed results at best so far in the early going of the 2008-09 NBA regular season.
Indiana handed the defending champion Boston Celtics their first loss of the regular season back on Nov. 1, a 95-79 defeat that seemed to signal the beginning of big things in Indiana for the revamped Pacers.
Of course, they followed that up with two consecutive losses, albeit against good team, (Phoenix and Cleveland) before winning three straight.
Just this past Tuesday, the Pacers handed the Los Angeles Lakers their second defeat of the regular season, a shocking 118-117 comeback win in which they covered the spread as 9-point underdogs.
Of course, the Pacers followed that victory up with a resounding 114-96 road loss to the Celtics on Wednesday, failing to cover the spread as 14.5-point road underdogs.
So, what are bettors to make of the Pacers?
Just this - right now, the Pacers look like a middling club capable of beating lesser opponents almost routinely. However, against quality opponents, the Pacers will largely struggle.
However, wagering on Indiana against better teams seems to be the way to go as they have recorded six of their eight ATS wins as an underdog this season.
When the spread looks right, take the Pacers to cover, particularly as an underdog.
