NFL Betting - NFC East Showdown - Eagles Host Redskins

by Eric Williams

The Washington Redskins, (3-1 SU, 3-1 ATS, 2-2 O/U) officially made the NFC East’s powerful trio a legitimate quartet last week by beating the Dallas Cowboys 26-24 to cover as 11-point underdogs in a contest I urged BetUS NFL bettors to go with the underdog Skins in.

Now, Washington will try to take down their second consecutive NFC East rival when the visit the Philadelphia Eagles, (2-2 SU, 3-1 ATS, 2-2 O/U) at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.

The Eagles retained their general status as one of the best teams in the league despite taking a close 26-24 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Young Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell is clearly maturing quickly and looked like a polished veteran in completing 20 of 31 passes for 231 passing yards with a pair of touchdowns.

Skins wideout Santana Moss caught eight passes for 145 yards in the win while running back Clinton Portis rushed 21 times for 121 yards.

Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb completed 25 of 41 passes for 262 yards with one touchdown and one interception and wide receiver DeSean Jackson had five catches for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia expects to have elusive running back Brian Westbrook back after he sat out against the Bears with an ankle injury.

The Redskins are ranked ninth in total offense, averaging 342.0 total yards per contest but are just 18th in scoring, averaging 21.5 points per game.

Philadelphia is ranked sixth in total offense and seventh in scoring, averaging 27.5 points per game. The Eagles are also ranked third in total defense, limiting opponents to just 245.5 total yards per game. Philadelphia has limited their opponents to just 18.5 points per game, seventh overall.

Here is a look at some key trends followed by my analysis and NFL Beting Free Picks:

The Redskins are 4-6 in their last 10 NFC East contests

The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Washington's last 9 games when playing Philadelphia

Washington is 5-2 ATS in its last 7 games when playing Philadelphia

The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Philadelphia's last 6 games at home

The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Philadelphia's last 9 games when playing Washington

Philadelphia is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games when playing Washington

Philadelphia is 5-2 SU in its last 7 games

NFL Odds

Washington Redskins +5½ -110

Philadelphia Eagles -5½ -110

Over 42½ -110

Under 42½ -110

Analysis: I really like the direction the Redskins are headed in under first-year head coach Jim Zorn but the Eagles know they can’t afford to lose this contest if they want to remain in contention to win the NFC East title. With Brian Westbrook back this week, I say take the Eagles to win this game and cover the spread as defensive coordinator Jim Johnson finds some sort of way to confuse and confound Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell in the process.
